How much data you hold, how fast it grows, which applications need speed and how long records must be kept.

Design
NAS or SAN, hybrid or all-flash, the RAID level, and the network to carry it: 10 GbE or Fibre Channel where performance needs it.

Deploy and migrate
Volumes, shares and permissions set up, data migrated and verified, and snapshots scheduled.

Protect and test
Backups that follow the 3-2-1 rule, a test restore, alerts for disk and capacity warnings, and a plan for the next expansion.
Buyer's checklist
What to check in any storage quote
- Is the capacity quoted usable (after RAID), not raw?
- Are the drives enterprise or NAS-grade, with spares on site or a fast replacement warranty?
- Are snapshots enabled, and are backups kept on a separate device and off site?
- Is at least one backup copy offline or immutable, so ransomware cannot reach it?
- Can capacity be expanded without replacing the whole unit?

Enterprise Storage: common questions
NAS or SAN: what is the difference?
A NAS shares files over the network and is ideal for departmental shares, CCTV archives and backups. A SAN presents fast block storage to servers and suits virtual machines and databases. Many businesses use both.
Is RAID a backup?
No. RAID keeps you running when a disk fails, but it does not protect against deletion, corruption, fire or ransomware. You still need backups on a separate device and a copy off site.
How do you protect our data against ransomware?
With layers: restricted permissions, snapshots that can roll data back, backups on separate storage, and at least one copy that is offline or immutable so an attacker cannot encrypt it.
